Fight Team results for November PDF Print E-mail
MMA

Attitude First had two fighters compete at US Airways Center.

Colten was the first fighter up.  He worked several arm bars in the first round but his opponent was to strong and used several slams to get out of them.   Colten was gassed after the first round.  More of the same for the second and thrid rounds.  His opponent used some good GnP but Colten was never in serious trouble.  He lost a decision.  He had been training/competing for the past 6 months and needs a little time off.

Matt was up next after a year off.  He Finally used his wrestling and took his opponent down at the start of the fight.   He defended an arm bar attempt and then softened up his opponent with some punches from half guard.  He then slapped on an Americana shoulder lock and forced his opponent to tap out.   Matt wins by submission.

January 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Attitude First
Look for our Fight Team to start out the year with some MMA fights.
Hopefully Jan 24th Matt Dell will return to the cage at EvoMMA.   Also look for Dave Solorio to make his debut on Jan 31st at Buffalo Wild Wings in Glendale.   Hopefully Colten will make his return at that event also.   The amateur rules have been changed to include closed fist standing!!   This will give our guys a huge advatage!

JR will be fighting in Vegas on Jan 9th at a private event sponsored  by MTX Audio.  He will be fighting WEC vetran Jesse Forbes.  Look for JR to bring his usual intensity to the cage!

Also look for our other fighters including Omur and Sal to get back into the cage in February/March.

Diabetes Fundraising Efforts PDF Print E-mail
Attitude First

Tiphany Steele, one of our young students was diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes in March of 2007. She was six years old. She will be insulin-dependent for the rest of her life. In her short time of a year and a half she has already endured over 3,200 fingerpricks and 2,100 insulin injections. In addition to her rigorous blood testing and insulin shots, everything she eats must be weighed and measured, and her blood levels even need to be checked while she sleeps and plays. Tiphany is always in great spirits and rarely complains. As you’ve seen, she is full of smiles and laughs during her daily diabetes routine.  Tiphany continually amazes us and is a blessing to have in our lives as a daily reminder of spirit, humility, and a positive attitude.

There are many devastating diseases in our world right now, and that saddens us. The difference with juvenile diabetes is that wiping it out of existence is extremely attainable and within reach. We feel confident a positive answer will be available in our lifetime.

Please understand, as parents, it’s our instinct from the moment our kids are born to protect them from any harm. We must do everything in our power to help find a cure for her. It’s our mission to avoid the heart and kidney disease, blindness, amputation, and early death that is a reality for many people with juvenile diabetes.

One of American Diabetes Association's fundraisers is through PF Chang’s yearly marathon.  Trina Steele, Tiphany's mom will be running with ‘Team Diabetes’.  She will be running the full marathon, a big 26 miles. In doing this she will be part of the fundraising for the American Diabetes Association.

If you are interested in helping out, there are two ways you can help us make a difference for Tiphany:
·         Go to my website:
http://www.active.com/donate/teamdiabetes/TSteele79 and donate online. It is fast, easy, and secure. You can donate any dollar amount you wish.
·         Mail your donation and contact others in your circle of family and friends to donate as well. A check can be written out to American Diabetes Association. The check can be mailed to me and I will deliver the checks. I will provide you with a receipt for tax purposes as well.

Thank you for helping one of our family members and their goal of raising $2,500 this year. We truly appreciate your support!

Tiphany has been training at Attitude First for a little over 6 months, she trained for a while when she was younger but it was decided she was a little young for it.  She is really working hard towards her yellow belt and we are extremely proud of her and her family as they show amazing attitudes and determination in dealing with Tiphany's condition.  We are additionally proud to support Trina in her efforts to run the marathon and support the American Diabetes Association.

Let’s Help Arizona’s Children Association PDF Print E-mail
Attitude First

Founded in 1912 as an orphanage to care for the state’s children who needed to find a permanent home, Arizona’s Children Association (AzCA) has grown to be the state’s largest and oldest non-profit, full-service child welfare and behavioral health agency.

As a non-profit organization most of AzCA’s funding comes from help through volunteers and donations.   The Central Region Therapeutic Program has asked for help and Attitude First Training Center is stepping up to the plate.

Here is the concept- AzCA receives an overwhelming amount of help and donations during the holidays for the children.   Fortunately that goes directly to deserving children.   This year the Central Region Therapeutic Program is wanting in addition to helping the children, they want to help the foster children “give to others.”

Here’s what they need… They are hoping to provide a “Gift Shop” that the children can come and get gifts for loved ones.   It could be for siblings, parents, etc but more importantly it might be for the foster family members that do so much for them during their stay.   Often times the system allows for children to be provided for but there are limited resources that allow the children an opportunity to give to others.

The Therapeutic Program works with foster children that have emotional and behavioral issues.   As a part of their therapy, as these children achieve behavioral goals and milestones they will earn points, with these points they will be able to “shop” for items to give as gifts.

How can members of Attitude First help? We will have a gift box available in the front lobby that members can drop off small items or checks (any money that is collected the staff of AzCA will go out and purchase items for gifts).   A “wish list” will be available in the next few weeks that can be used for ideas in gathering items.

We feel this is a great opportunity for Attitude First to share the holiday spirit and for these foster children to experience the “Gift of Giving.”

We will continue the Gift drive from October 1st through November 30th.
