The Attitude First Martial Arts Academy (AFMAA) can’t emphasize enough about the exciting path you or your child want to embark on. The AFMAA believes that this path will guide the member (student) to understanding, recognizing, and accomplishing any endeavor he/she chooses.
It is important to note - that EVERY MEMBER is an individual with understanding, challenges, and skills that are unique. We would be remiss if we thought every member was the same. Because of this, goals and requirements will be tailored to the member, so the member can achieve an established set of standards at a pace that is appropriate for their development.
As you have guessed, excelling in this endeavor requires an organized system of specific requirements and a timeline for accomplishing them. Using the Martial Arts as our curriculum allows us to track your progress with an integrated ranking system (the belts).
To further organize your progress, the AFMAA will set your training into individual sessions. Each session will be an opportunity to develop, practice, and enhance your skills. Consistency of attendance is the key to learning.
We use the following programs to achieve the results of a strong, confident, and healthy student:
The Lil’ Attitudes classes are designed for the 3- to 6-year-olds whose parents want their child to learn self-confidence and self-discipline. What differentiates the Attitude First Martial Arts Academy (AFMAA) is that even though this class is filled with laughter, fun, and movement, the child will learn the basics of self-defense in the process. More importantly, the child will learn how to follow instructions, the importance of exercise, when it is appropriate to use certain skills, being aware, and mostly, how to defend him/herself.
As we have found over the course of 35 years of instructing, for a child of this age group to learn, it is important for the lesson to be on the student's level using their language and frame of mind. This half-hour class is specifically designed with this age group in mind.
The Teen Martial Arts Program for 11 to 15 years of age (based on maturity and size) is designed around the student that wants to:
Develop mental, emotional, and physical strength to obtain their goals
Obtain the confidence to take the appropriate action when required
Make goals and keep commitment
Use self-awareness, self-belief, self-confidence, and self-discipline as an opportunity enhancer
Build new "good" habits
Learn to exercise
Understand the reasons for living a healthy lifestyle
Defend themselves on the ground and standing up
It is expected that the students will learn the current events that are affecting the safety and security of themselves, family, and neighborhood. The students will learn about single opponents, multiple opponents, the defense of weapons, the use of weapons, locks, chokes, hugs, and holds.
The Adult Martial Arts program for ages 16 and older is specifically designed around the needs of participants in the world called life. As we keep proving, you are never too old to start training in the martial arts, and you are definitely never too old to learn and grow. For adults, the martial arts can give you the experiences to build great fitness levels, feel empowered, and more disciplined. It's fun, interesting, and beneficial. Not to mention, you will also make great friends.
There is no doubt that everyone comes to Attitude First Martial Arts Academy for different reasons. Some people want to improve their fitness while others want to be more empowered in their daily activities. Some join us to learn self-defense while others train to build their confidence. Our martial art classes for adults are benefit-oriented and driven by your personal goals.
Our program is a comprehensive approach to learning to defend ourselves but it is not complicated. We have had every age group inside our academy from 3 to 65. You can start at any age, you don't have to be in shape, or have some specific set of experiences. You just have to bring your willingness and your attitude to learn and grow!
Our approach to the martial arts is built around three concepts: discipline, protection, and empowerment. Traditionally, these are referred to as body, mind, and spirit. Through the art of Kenpo Karate, individuals develop practical self-defense skills, leadership qualities, self-discipline, self-empowerment, great speaking skills, and much more.
Today's environment for young ladies has dramatically changed! They have several battles to contend with: image, friends, school, social media, bullying, and predators.
Can they be expected to have the confidence to defend themselves as they navigate the daily issues of communication, appearance, dating, and socializing? Our answer... Absolutely! However, they need to be aware of their choices and learn to be responsible for their choices.
Unfortunately, statistics show that once an individual is victimized (regardless of the level) they are more susceptible to be victimized again. Additionally, with every experience, the level intensifies. Early awareness and development of confidence can help to prevent this cycle.
Our Women's Self-Defense program is designed to introduce the awareness of effective choices in the event of an undesirable situation.
