The Attitude First Martial Arts Academy (AFMAA) Teen program is an energetic and practical martial art skill development program for children between the ages of 13 and 17.  We have built the program around our three major areas of strength, confidence, and health.  Our goal is to provide the youth entrusted to us with the understanding of discipline, protection, and empowerment. Our Teen program helps these young men and women to have awareness and appropriate attitude to the situations around them while addressing the goals desired by parents.

Students learn how to use their martial art skills, techniques, sets, and forms to protect themselves from the issues, concerns, and situations that they will be confronted with as they go through 8th through 12th grade.

At AFMAA, belts are never given…they are only earned. Our belt system helps teens to understand responsibility, goal setting, and consequences through tangible awards.  Every belt requires the student to be tested on the knowledge and skills taught in class. As we tell everyone, you are never too old to start training in the martial arts. For teens just starting out, the martial arts can give you the experiences to build great fitness levels, feel empowered, and more disciplined. It's fun, interesting, and beneficial.

The Attitude First Martial Arts Academy (AFMAA) teen program is built around three concepts: discipline, protection, and empowerment. Traditionally these are referred to as body, mind, and spirit. Through the art of Kenpo Karate, individuals develop practical self-defense skills, leadership qualities, self-discipline, self-empowerment, great speaking skills, and more.

Physical Fitness is one of the primary reasons people join the martial arts. You don’t need to already be fit to join our classes. Our classes will help you get in the best shape of your life.  Our workout programs allow you to work at your own level of fitness while continually helping you reach new goals and feel great at the same time.

We keep a pragmatic approach to self-defense in our martial art classes. Our students learn a comprehensive curriculum that includes striking, stand-up grappling, ground fighting, and weapons for self-defense as well as for competition. All these elements are carefully balanced with a practical understanding of the martial art in regard to our legal system and social values.

  • Self-Defense

Our young martial artists have the opportunity to learn the American Kenpo Martial Art system.  Kenpo is a self-defense system that incorporates hand strikes, kicking, submission grappling, and weapons with a realistic approach to defending oneself in a modern world.  They will exercise their skills by learning Forms, Sets, and Freestyle.  There will be ample opportunity to also explore competitions.

  • Ground/MMA

Each of these classes is specifically designed to work with the students on how to command and win when defending themselves on the ground.  The class is specifically designed to ensure each student has the skill and knowledge of successful grappling.  It is important to note:  No experience necessary.  If the student has a great attitude, they are welcome.

  • Champion

This class will help selected members achieve a champion mindset in their art and ultimately in their lives.  It is designed around providing experiences that will push the member's comfort zone of what it takes to be a Black Belt. Please note: It will affect all five fitnesses of the member's mind, body, and spirit. Members wanting to be a part of this class must be pre-approved (and stay approved) by Mr. Robinson. It is not based on age or rank, as much as maturity, commitment, and attitude.

  • Family Self-Defense

Attitude First Martial Arts Academy believes so strongly that a family that plays together, stays together, that we provide FREE to all of our members the opportunity to bring their family on the mat to share in their experience.  Parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, grandparents, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren have all participated.  Wear comfortable clothes and enjoy the experience!

  • Weapons

This is a special class that will be 100% dedicated to the understanding of how, when, and why weapons are used, how to defend against them, and yes, how to use them. The class is by invitation only and requires the approval of Mr. Robinson.

  • Sports Martial Arts Related Training (SMART)

SMART is an exciting form of training that allows the participant to use their skills in a competitive arena. Classes focus on the specifics of competitive fighting, forms, grappling, and full contact competitions. SMART is also highly recommended as a fun and exciting form of exercise and conditioning for individuals that want to get into shape fast (even if they have no desire to compete).

  • Leadership

This class is helping Youth and Teens take on the additional responsibilities of leading portions of a class. They will learn about instructing students of all ages.
