We’ve noticed some reservations around the term “Spiritual,” and we want to clarify its meaning within our Martial Arts Training context.
Defining Fitness in Martial Arts
In our practice, fitness encompasses the quality of our abilities and attributes across five synergistic aspects:
- Physical Fitness
- Definition: Our physical being, muscle response, and organic functioning.
- Explanation: It’s about improving our bodies to make activities easier.
- Perceptual Fitness
- Definition: The attributes/senses used to identify stimuli (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch).
- Explanation: It’s about enhancing our awareness of the environment.
- Emotional Fitness
- Definition: The ability to understand and appropriately express emotions.
- Explanation: Emotions are vital for survival, but they must suit the context to be effective.
- Intellectual Fitness
- Definition: The ability to understand and use information to our benefit.
- Explanation: It’s about enhancing our thinking processes.
- Spiritual Fitness
- Definition: How we relate to our universe, strengthen relationships, and face challenges with courage.
- Explanation: It’s about transforming unease into ease and strengthening our inner resilience.
